Our Staff
PHC Ltd staff are appointed subject to:
- Satisfactory character and employment history references which provide evidence that the person is honest, reliable and trustworthy and will treat Service Users with respect. This includes a reference from a previous employer where applicable.
- Checks on a full employment history, with any gaps explained.
- Satisfactory evidence of conduct and reasons for leaving previous employment where the applicant has worked previously in health or social care, or with children or adults in need of care and support.
- Medical suitability checks.
- Checks that the applicant is legally entitled to work in the UK.
- Checks that they demonstrate that they meet the same standards of competency, qualification and experience for the role as they would have had they been trained in the United Kingdom, where the applicant has been recruited from outside the United Kingdom.
- Checks that they are currently registered with the relevant professional regulator and/or professional body where appropriate, and only use a protected professional title where their qualifications and registration allow them to do so.
- Regular checks to evidence that they are aware of and adhere to any codes of professional conduct that apply to them.
- Monitoring that they are physically and mentally able to carry out their role, with a plan of support including reasonable adjustment where necessary, ensuring that neither they nor people who use the service will be placed at risk by the work they will do because of an illness or medical condition they have.
- Being able to communicate effectively with people who use services and other staff, to ensure that the care, treatment and support of people who use services is not compromised.
- Appropriate disclosure information (as required under section 113 of the Police Act 1997).
Uniforms and ID badges
- The uniforms provided by PHC for both male and female staff shall be worn at all times whilst on duty, including travelling between visits and during the care visit.
- Where it is inappropriate to wear a uniform (as designated by the Registered Manager and not at the discretion of staff), PHC staff shall wear clothing which is in keeping with the role they have to perform.
- Name badges must be worn or carried at all times whilst on duty and presented on arrival at the person’s home.
Smoking and Alcohol
- PHC does not allow smoking or the drinking of alcohol or the taking of drugs (apart from prescribed medicines) in a Service User’s home or whilst on duty. If staff need to take their medication this needs to be discussed and planned with the manager.
Please note that PHC has a complaints and whistle blowing procedure and this will be disclosed to users of our services.
Staff
- Prior to starting work our staff go through a rigorous training procedure which is designed to meet the specific needs of the people we care for.
